5 Favorite Living Rooms That You’ll Love Too – Schneiderman’s {the blog}

favorite living room - cozy nook by the stone fireplace

We did a round-up in our last post of some top decorating posts from 2016, but today I’m posting some of my favorite rooms from the year.

Since we post about a lot of different topics and rooms throughout the year, narrowing it down was a bit of a dilemma.  So I made it a little easier and focused on favorite living rooms.

There are a lot of those too, of course, so I had to limit myself to 5 :-).   Here they are in no particular order…

1. Charming Chesterfield.

The Chesterfield sofa has it all – a classic silhouette, great style, interesting details, and amazing versatility a design standpoint.

I would probably be drawn to check out any room that had a Chesterfield sofa in it, but the way our designers pulled together this modern take had me at hello.  One of my all-time favorite living rooms, for

Interior Design History: Decorating Styles Through the AgesBuildDirect Blog: Life at Home

Reading Time: 2 minutes

For as long as humanity has been a species, we’ve decorated.

From the ancient cave-paintings of our hunter-gatherer ancestors, to the fluted columns of early Western civilization, to modernist architecture into the 20th century, and now to 21st Century eclecticism, we’ve taken pride in our homes and in our communities by celebrating the wonders of aesthetics and practical design.

Are there any common threads in the history of interior design and exterior design? What have the Ancient Egyptians got in common with the Art Deco cities of the 1920s jazz age? And what design elements are we utilizing today in the bright and shining 21st Century that echo our illustrious interior design and architectural past?

Well, I hope that this brief history of design will shed some light on where we’ve come from, and where we’re going.

Take a look!

10 Interior Design Tips To Add Natural Light In Your HomeBuildDirect Blog: Life at Home

Reading Time: 3 minutes

If you’ve checked your calendar or walked outside recently you’ve probably realized that spring is upon us. Spring is a time of warmth and sun, a welcome combination that often makes the inside world seem dark and dreary in comparison. For this reason, it is understandable that many people seek to maximize their home’s natural light during the spring season. Whether you’re looking for a quick fix or an extensive remolding project, here are ten tips for accomplishing just that:

1. Free up your windows

Perhaps the best way to start is by clearing your windows of obstruction and opening them up to the sunlight. Many windows have bars or heavy drapes that prevent the maximum amount of light from getting through. Similarly, windows are often grimier – and consequently less clear – than they ideally could be.
