A 21st-century Victorian home sounds like a rare find in our region, and it is. The residence at 8328 Cole Springs Road, in Girard Township, is an attention-getter in photos on Realtor.com and it commands attention as you pull up and admire the architectural detail surrounded by 46 scenic acres.
If you don’t know where Cole Springs Road is, you are not alone. It’s only about 4 miles from Interstate 90 in Girard, and it is country living with plenty of property and woods.
Owners Kathleen and Paul Atkinson built the home in 2002, and the property incudes two parcels, and part of one is in Platea. From the road, you get a full appreciation of the architecture on the left of the house, where a six-sided, tower bedroom with arched windows tops off a spacious covered gazebo-style porch. The style is similar on the right side of the house where bump-out bay windows mirror the look.
The landscape includes curved sidewalks, retaining walls and a double arbor along with beautiful plantings throughout the property.
The covered front porch offers a scenic spot to enjoy the country views, and the double front doors with beveled glass open to the gracious 26-foot-tall entrance hall. A massive Schonbek crystal chandelier illuminates the 18-by-18-foot expanse that opens to most of the first-floor rooms. The chandelier can be raised and lowered as needed. A custom, curved, cherry staircase sweeps up to the open second floor.
To the right, French doors enter the 14-by-15-foot office that features a bay window with a window seat and plenty of extraordinary woodwork with built-ins and moldings.
Details are impressive. For example, ornate Victorian door handles gleam on every door throughout the house.
Behind the office, double doors open to a hallway that branches off to the first-floor master suite. It includes a full bath, and the bedroom and hallway open through French doors to the expansive outdoor patio and 19-by-34-foot Tahiti in-ground pool.
To the left of the main foyer, the 13-by-11-foot formal dining room also includes a bay window, and it passes through a butler’s pantry to the kitchen where granite counters top off stunning cherry cabinetry. The kitchen was an award-winner in a Builders Association of Northwest Pennsylvania contest.
The kitchen connects to the 16-by-16-foot family room that includes a Samsung digital home theater system. The family room also opens through French doors to the outdoor living space, covered patio and pool.
The first floor also includes an elegant half bath with artistic peonies and ivy designs on the Kohler sink and commode. A first-floor laundry room adds convenience and a two-car attached garage provides indoor parking.
On the second floor, an open hallway looks out over the foyer, and four more bedrooms share two full baths.
Outside, the covered patio and pool are fenced and the area accesses a separate 30-by-40-foot building that provides space for four vehicles and includes its own covered patio. The master suite, kitchen and family room have French doors that access the patio and pool.
In all, this home includes 14 rooms, geothermal heat, well and septic. Taxes are $11,352.
